Beware, Trigger Diabetes Not Just Food, Pollutants Can Also

Now, not merely a diet and unhealthy lifestyle can lead to diabetes. A study revealed that pollutants are also at risk of making a person develops diabetes.

Several types of pollutants or pollutants such as pesticides and "poly-chlorinated biphenyls" or suspected PCB-related type 2 diabetes. Both types of pollutants are often found in high-fat meats and fish. PCBs have been used in the manufacture of paints, plastics, and electrical equipment, but now no longer used in many countries.

However exposure to chemicals still occurs in the general population because they are contaminated from the food chain. A study published in the journal Diabetes Care says, the chemicals are likely to be driving changes in the body and trigger diabetes. But researchers were not able to prove that the chemical does cause diabetes.

The study was conducted on 725 adults with diabetes in Sweden is free. The researchers took their blood samples to measure levels of pollutants. Then, the researchers observed them for five years. A total of 36 of all participants diagnosed with type 2 diabetes during the observation.

When the team headed by Dr. Duk-Hee Lee, from Kyungpook National University in Daegu, South Korea, taking into account other risks such as diabetes are weight loss, exercise, and smoking, it turns out people who have high levels of PCBs, has nine times higher likelihood of having diabetes than those with low levels of pollutants in their blood.

Relation is smaller for a number of types of pesticides, while others are not associated with diabetes at all. However, the researchers were not able to prove that the PCBs or other pollutants cause diabetes.

According to the National Institutes of Health in the United States, more than eight percent of the U.S. population has diabetes, mostly type 2 diabetes. Meanwhile, according to World Health Organization, as much as 8.6 percent of Indonesia's population suffer from diabetes.

The disease consists of two types of diabetes. In type 1 diabetes is caused purely by genetic abnormalities, ie, when the body was not producing insulin which controls blood sugar levels, so patients need insulin injections every day. Type 1 diabetes usually occurs in children and adolescents.

In type 2 diabetes, pakreas produce insulin, but cells are not able to respond normally. This type of diabetes is usually associated with obesity, lack of exercise, and high blood pressure. This type is usually only attack at the age above 40 years.

If not controlled properly, high blood sugar levels in people with diabetes will result in damage to blood vessels and nerves that can cause impaired vision and kidney problems and increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and impotence.

Someone said to suffer from diabetes when blood sugar levels above 126 mg / dl fasting or 200 mg / dl when not fasting. However, the most visible symptom of new diabetes when blood sugar is above 270 mg / dl.

Common symptoms of diabetes include constant thirst, increased urinary frequency, fatigue, weight loss, impaired vision, and if injuries take a long time to heal.

Eating more vegetables and other plant foods and exercising regularly are thought to help rid the body of pollutants.
